From Hans J. Wegner to Finn Juhl, Denmark has a reputation for producing unforgettable design creations, and this tradition did not fade in the 16th century. With a passion for organic forms, luxurious materials, and precise details, Overgaard & Dyrman crafts contemporary furniture using traditional techniques and modern technologies.

Founded in 2013, the studio operates as a collaborative platform, placing furniture at the center of a highly specialized production process. From the first pencil sketch to the final wood finish, Overgaard & Dyrman strives to achieve both visual and functional excellence.

Currently, the atelier boasts two exclusive collections, admired by interior design enthusiasts and worthy of recognition. Below, we explore more about the identity of this emerging Danish creative force.

Style and Approach

The essence of the brand can be defined as “a fusion of tradition and modernity.” This is due to the founders’ appreciation for traditional craftsmanship techniques, which they apply alongside modern technology. In this way, classical skills are preserved while pushing the boundaries of what is possible with contemporary tools.

The brand’s designs often take on geometric contours and reference shapes found in nature. The goal is to create authentic expressions of elegance, designed to inspire and captivate.

To achieve this, each piece is meticulously refined so that every specification enhances the ergonomic experience while simultaneously celebrating the materiality and construction method of each product.

Friendship and Design

Jasper Overgaard and Christian Dyrman met at Aalborg University in 2005 and began their partnership there. In 2008, they both moved to Copenhagen and enrolled at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design & Conservation, where they graduated in January 2011 with a Master’s degree in Furniture and Spatial Design.

The university became an experimental ground for various aspects, such as craftsmanship techniques and the strengthening of material and technology knowledge. There, they developed individual and collaborative skills that would later prove essential for what would become Overgaard & Dyrman.

After graduation, the designers separated for a time, with Christian moving to northern Denmark while Jasper remained in Copenhagen. Despite the distance, they continued exchanging ideas, sketches, and technical drawings regularly.

During this period, the idea for Overgaard & Dyrman’s debut collection, the “Wire Collection,” emerged. It combined the technical knowledge acquired at university with their individual skills—Christian’s expertise as a blacksmith and Jasper’s craftsmanship in leatherwork.

At the beginning of 2013, the studio officially launched as a brand. Following the release of the “Wire Collection” and gaining international recognition for its originality and design quality, O&D introduced its second furniture collection in 2019—the “Circle Collection.”

"Wire" and "Circle" Collections

Inspired by the striking aesthetic contrast between two distinct materials—structural steel and high-quality aniline leather—the “Wire Collection” merges two highly detailed and specialized traditional crafts: saddlery and precise metalwork.

Each piece was designed with an emphasis on aesthetic and structural balance. The result is an innovative collection that blends organic forms with timeless materials. Below are the pieces in the “Wire” line:

1 – Wire Chair

2 – Wire Lounge Chair

3 – Wire Sofa

4 – Wire Barstool

5 – Wire Stool

Guided by the graceful arches and enveloping curves of the elegant simplicity of the circle, the “Circle Collection” was conceived as a functional art object that can be admired from all angles.

Manufactured using both traditional and contemporary techniques, including CNC machining and classic woodworking, “Circle” has a light and elegant expression. Explore the collection’s options:

1 – Circle Chair

2 – Circle Armchair

3 – Circle Barstool

4 – Circle Barstool with Arms

5 – Circle Stool
