The designer Oki Sato is considered one of the 100 most respected men in Japan (according to Newsweek magazine). His achievement was gaining success at the helm of Nendo Studio, which, with just nine years of operation, stands out in the contemporary design scene.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Oki studied architecture in Tokyo and, three years after founding Nendo in 2005, he expanded the brand by opening an office in Milan, where he works with collaborators on developing anything creativity dictates.
His hallmark is adding cutting-edge technology to the study of materials and to creations that are absolutely utilitarian—as demanded by Japanese culture—yet full of the emotion needed to make daily life a collection of small and great joys.
He has been named ‘Designer of the Year’ by the renowned Wallpaper, Elle Decor Design Awards, Iconic Awards, and Maison&Objet. Additionally, his creations have earned awards at the Red Dot Design Award, iF Products Design Award, and an honorable mention at the Compasso d’Oro. He works with major furniture brands, such as DePadova, Gandia Blasco, Oluce, and Driade, among others.
His minimalist work has earned him much more than awards, being prominently featured in various exhibitions worldwide, from New York to Jerusalem.
